Excerpt from the Sound
on Sound review of VAZ Modular
2.1 March 2000... "VAZ Modular is so
easy to use that you can start designing your own
synths within a few minutes of installation.
Neatly avoids having to have graphic patch cords
dangling everywhere, without restricting your
options, and makes designing synths quick and
easy. Creating a basic VCO-VCF-VCA synth,
complete with envelope generators for filter and
amplifier, took me about 90 seconds, including
all the source routing, and this immediacy makes
creating new synths a real pleasure. The built-in
sequencer has comprehensive facilities for step
editing, real-time MIDI performance, and
syncing to MIDI clock. Like the rest of the
system, the Mixer Is simplicity itself. It
certainly sounded significantly better at
analogue simulations than most other soft synths.
You can get a big sound from even a monophonic
synth in VAZ. The filters in particular were very
rich and squelchy, and capable of a wide range of
wonderful resonant sweeps. A few comparative
tests with [other soft synths] showed that the
VAZ filters came out top. If you want quality
analogue sounds, and one of the easiest
interfaces around to use, its the best. The
bottom line is that if you like analogue sounds,
youll love this!...Martin Walker, SOS

Excerpt from the Computer
Music review of VAZ Modular 2... "Could this be the
only soft synth you'll ever need? It
might...We've seen some pretty amazing soft
synths since the launch of Computer Music, but
none so as impressive (probably) as that
phat-sounding VAZ+ which bagged our very first
Ultimate Buy award. If you're wondering at this
point 'what could possibly top that?', well
here's something that might just rise to the
challenge...Within five minutes we were hammering
out distorted acid basslines, dreamy filter-swept
pads, sequenced eighties pop riffs and the
occasional comment along the lines of 'is this
really just a piece of software running in that
there PC'? Indeed it was. Analogue heaven...With
names like Acidizer, Hoover and 'We Code The
Future', you know they're not going to be your
average run of the mill sounds. And they're not.
Acidizer, for example, is a 303 clone that sounds
very similar to a Korg Prophecy (a real hardware
physical modelling synth). The sounds that come
from this patch alone almost justify the outlay.
But there's more...presets include emulations of
many a classic synth, including Moogs, Prophets
and Roland's SH101 and JX-8P. The words lush,
phat and dangerous don't even begin to explain
how good they sound. The more we got into VAZ
Modular, the more we liked it. There seemed to be
no type of analogue sound it couldn't reproduce
well. the results are quite simply first
class....Steve Helstrip, Computer Music

Excerpt from the Future
Music review of VAZ Modular 2... "The VAZ series have a
reputation that precedes the V2 modular synth
which is entirely deserved. The bottom line is
the quality of the sounds it generates, which are
nothing short of excellent. The filtering and
oscillators give a very profound timbral range to
the whole program and its tones would certainly
pass a blindfold test in a comparison with pretty
well any classic analogue synth you would care to
choose. It can also hold its own against
dedicated virtual analogue synths. This new
version is extremely comprehensive. Probably the
best sound from a virtual synth."...Jon
Bates, Future Music

Excerpt from the Sonic
Spot web review of VAZ Modular 2 "VAZ Modular is an
incredibly thorough and well designed software
synthesizer. It not only makes a great analog
synth for any studio, but is also perfect for
live settings and even integration into a modern
DJ setup. So, if you're looking for a responsive
analog synthesizer packed with useful features
and full-on MIDI support, this program gets my
highest recommendation, especially if you're
interested in including it in a live
setup."...sonicspot.com

*NB Most of the audio
clips in the following sections have been compressed with
ADPCM, which reduces the size of samples to 1/4 original
size (a big saving on download time). This can sometimes
introduce a little noise/artefacts, but generally is very
acceptable.

We thought it might be
necessary to clarify that the following audio-clips are
generated totally by VAZ Modular 2, no external
effects/Plug-ins or external mixing or samples, and
generated simply using the Capture to WAV facility in VAZ
Modular 2. Even the sequences were done using the
in-built sequencers. BTW All these patches/sequences and
more are included with the software.
